"Jumi is an activist and a rescuer in Yong-in city, south of Seoul. We named her team “South” She had an old butcher surrendered 17 dogs to her last March but had no place to relocate them. She’s been keeping the dogs at the butchers’s yard and feeding the dogs. We are taking the dogs three by three from her rescues on going. The first three pups came to us are malnourished but gaining weight last ten days already playing and learning new things. They are waiting for our vet’s regular visit for more vaccinations and health check up. All are health checked, spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated by end of May. Jumi rescued Vanessa and Victor again from the same old butcher early May.

She had another dog trader breeding dogs surrendered three dogs. We went out to rescue together last week of May. Two are at the boarding, one is with us. They are named Adam and Eve, the one with us is Ave Maria"

"We had four pups released by the butcher 7 weeks ago, he wanted to keep the three for breeding while asking for money. We know he does not have proper license to do this, no farming license to start with. We are here pulling out the remaining dogs today. The first white dog is the mama of the four pups(Yeni, Yan, Annie and Kori) the butcher released seven weeks ago. The puppies are all with the homes"

"It's basically a goat farm for producing goat elixir, the butcher also sells dog tonic for the buyers without livestock license. We rescued all of them and brought the butcher to the authority in early April. Almost all the 15 dogs are found heartworm positive and are very timid. They will learn to live with humans and warm up for the new planet"

"We had total 20 dogs rescued from this meat farm cum heavy construction equipment rental site over the years. Sharon pulled almost all of them. No more dogs there but saw a bull dog there, few chickens and goats. The reason he raises these are simply because he doesn't trust the quality of the meat being served at the restaurants. He wants his own meat. His business is going almost bankrupt"

This is one farm that our rescue member was negotiating with the butcher for over a month. He surrendered the four pups but the butcher is asking for money for the rest of three big dogs. We do not fund butchers as they will do this again and again even after signing agreement. We have reported the case to the city, the butcher is shutting down the meat farm.

Our team heard a news from a school teacher who lives near the old man’s house. He has been doing this for over 30 years nothing but slaughtering dogs for a living . The house had a few cages with dogs in it that apparently were about to get slaughtered for his next income. We managed to talk to his younger brother and family members. The butcher had an motorbike accident and he is still in coma. It was the family agreed to surrendered them all. 

"This is one kind, all his life did nothing but slaughtering dogs for livelihood in his own private home. I just can not believe neighbors put up with the smell and barking for over 30 years and no one actually took an action until we came"

Our neighbor in the next village there is a factory manufacturing heavy equipment parts. They keeps a guard dog, she gave birth to four puppies. When one got sick they wanted to get rid of them by selling them to dog traders. We heard the news we went ahead and got them all.

The puppies are about 3 months old, we will need to wait for one more month to have them up for adoption.
Meanwhile, they are warming up in the new environment.

Jun is a personal friend of mine. He is an artist living in Gwangju. There is a private meat farm (breed dogs for his own consumption or sell the dogs to dog traders) not far from his studio. It took a while for Jun to convince the old man and come to negotiation. The old man surrendered the dogs.

"Tough negotiation again on the site while pulling them out. We won in the end. I always mention the enforcement of animal protection law and the heavy fine under six violations. The butcher wants to keep a dog for himself. The cages will be destroyed."

Mini Farm is in a village next to our shelter, total 15 are found in a private property. The owner breeds the dogs for his own consumption, started with two ended up with 15. The old man released six to us early January 2018 and we are still working on it to get the remaining dogs out.

Update:
The butcher released the remaining four dogs to us 3rd week of June 2018. The puppies are ready for adoption, all survived the Parvo and growing up healthy now. All of them learnt how to play recently.

"One of the dogs rescued last week is the worst heartbreaking story of all I have seen in my last seven years of rescue. Her eyes bring me tears. She is named "Penny" by Jess. Almost drowned in that waste water, half of her right ear cut, rope so so tight chocking, more than hundreds of ticks. I still wonder how she survived. She's been eating well but very afraid of humans trembling. Jess Abella Gilroy and Sylvia were the hero of this rescue. Salute you both! "

"...what this old man wants to do? Negotiation on going, I stick to my policy I don't buy dogs. I can say I am one woman who've dealt with butchers and dog farmers the most in Korea. He gave away 8 dogs (including sick Seree) I won't be able to take all the dogs but those adoptable ones. He does not have one license, no permit to farm livestock. I let him know the total amount of fine he has to pay for six violations mostly under environmental law. No disposal sewerage facility contaminating the water and the soil itself is exceeding $5,000. One of the two medias that were with us is Korean Observer, thank you for this footage. "

We went over to the Mini Farm to rescue two dogs when the butcher wanted to release Cupcake and Pommy. We saw the Cocker Spaniel there that didn’t look well. We rushed to Dr.Dee (Parvo specialist) they were infected by Parvo, spent a week at the clinic. Nelson was discharged after a week but Norah needed more time to fight the virus. So far, our Dr.Dee 100 % survivor rate of our Parvo patients. Norah came home after four days, Nelson reunited with his sister Norah.

"Four puppies were left behind when a factory gone out of business. They are not from the meat trade direct but high chances of falling into the hands of dog traders. They are flying in from Jeju Island next week.
Our six puppues are discharged and back to shelter. Thanks Dog, kennel cough broke out at a shelter corner is under control..."

Gunsan is the 3rd Dog Meat Free city Nami is targeting. The activists in the region are the most engaged and dedicated of all. It was a small scale rescue 2 months old puppies and two adults total 8 are saved 3rd week of October 2018.Sadly, due to the parvo outbreak only two survived. They were so precious we named them Grace and Bliss. Bliss is recovering. They are the winners.​

"Another local rescue group took over over 54 dogs. These dogs were originally from Moran dog meat market. The vendors moved their dogs and occupy the construction site in 2018. The site happens to be the place a huge apartment complex was supposed to be built.

The group took over the ownership of over 50 dogs, mostly Tosa. Many of them found homes in abroad but still a dozen of dogs are still under the care of the volunteers. Sunie found a home after she joined SKD, Kito, Tess and more are still waiting at boarding. Nami is taking in one by one"
